I'm just starting to get into horror films?

I'm in relatively territory though, primarily I've been watching some of the more famous ones like The Thing, The Howling, and The Omen, primarily just whatever I find on Netflix, but I really don't know enough to separate the good movies from the bad and I don't want to be put off horror because of it, so any recommendations are strongly appreciated.
