Why won't my Turtle Beach x11's work with my Datel rapid fire controller?

I have an Xbox 360. I just bought a controller from gamestop. It wouldn't pick up when I plugged in my headset. I took it back. I went to Target to buy THE SAME CONTROLLER. It still won't pick up that I plug in a headset. Is it my Turtle Beaches? Or is there something I'm doing wrong?
