Understanding waves and why the speed of sound doesnt change with time?
You actually have the right idea, and the speed of the individual particles does decrease as the wave spreads out. But the speed of the individual particles is not the same as the speed of the wave. The speed of the individual particles is related to the energy and the amplitude of the wave.
